Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How long has SHS been in business?

SHS, formally known as Specialty Personnel Services, began in 1999 as a staffing company, placing nurses and members of the allied health field in hospitals and other facilities. In 2005, SPS recognized the need for quality home care, and became licensed in RI and MA for the provision of non-skilled home care services. In 2006, the counties of Fairfield and New Haven in CT were added. This year, SPS became SHS with total commitment to the home care community.

  2. How can I be sure that a home care agency is reputable?

It can often be a difficult decision to allow strangers into your home. Knowing that an agency that is accredited provides reassurance that it has been scrutinized regarding the provision of care, as well as the financial and administrative policies. SHS is accredited by CHAP, the Community Health Accreditation Program, since 2006.

  3. Is there a minimum number of hours per week that are required to retain services?

SHS provides services to suit the needs of the client, from 2-24 hours, including live-in services.

  4. Is it possible to obtain services for my mom for 1 week while I am away on business?

SHS is ready to provide services on a need basis. We request 1 week advance notice for intermittent services.

  5. Would you have staff that can accompany my mom when she travels with us on vacation?

SHS has many staff members with varied flexibility and could provide a travel aide.

  6. What forms of payment do you accept?

SHS invoices weekly with detail regarding days and hours of service, and the name of the staff member. SHS accepts MC, Visa, and checks. We also have the ability to work with Long Term Care Insurance Companies.
